Creative Leap Introduction

April 25, 2017

Would you like an adventure now, or would you like to have your tea first?

J M Barrie – Peter Pan

Welcome to Creative Leap

I’m thrilled to have you on board on this month long creative journey, a little adventure exploring our own creativity through a variety of ways using limited resources.

The focus of Creative Leap is on observation and responding to what you see and know, and then what you create in response to the various alphabet-focused projects: rethinking and adjusting the creative process in ways to develop your approach and honing your own style.

Course Background

As a full time painter and designer I am regularly asked where I find inspiration from, or information about ways to be more creative. There is not an easy answer to this, since different things inspire all of us.

I do however believe the key to creativity lies with observation and fundamentals of drawing. Drawing need not be beautifully rendered sketches: quick drawings and doodles are, in my opinion of more value when it comes to developing creativity, feeling inspired and exploring your own resourcefulness and original ideas in different ways.

Creative Leap is in essence a series of drawing and uncomplicated exercises developed over time from my Explore Colour art workshops and group projects. Even though I am not a figurative painter, I think it is important to link the creative process with drawing and use different topics in order to develop artistically.

The aim of this course is to point participants to different directions and to use the familiar to develop creativity and discover new ideas to use in your practice.

My Background

My first qualification was in Textile Design and I have a strong belief that as artists we can apply ourselves and use different media, disciplines and specialisms on our individual creative journeys.

After textiles where I specialised in silkscreen printing and surface decoration, I studied Fine Art, Printmaking. I was a freelance designer and studio ceramicist for a decade. I completed my BA Hons in Ceramics and Glass and subsequently my Masters in Jewellery Design in 2012. I enjoy creating in a wide spectrum of media and 3D, however my main focus is being a colourist painter.
