Life isn’t a matter of milestones but of moments

L is for Loopy Letters, Lines and Love.
After a few days of ignoring letters in the mini-projects, we are back with a letter- based one, linked to the bigger mini project: M for Mandala to follow on the weekend. A mandala is the artwork to be created incorporating pattern, colour and layering within a circular kaleidoscope design.
But first L.
L’s mini-project is focused on the loopy letter shapes that will be useful for creating patterns, aesthetic words and forms to use in unique combinations.
Lines: We’ll be exploring the linking of loopy lines in order to create the Mandala kaleidoscope artwork, coming up in Project M
Love: Project L is a preparation for a bigger artwork to be created in Project M. It will have a sentimental connection, maybe some heart-shaped letters, monograms or hidden messages. More on it later.
This project is in ways related to Project D (D is for Design) in that they both incorporate letter patterns. This time your letters can also vary in size and the outcome is more pattern focused. These designs will form the basic framework of a circular mandala. Play around with letter shapes to create new forms, see images.
Loopy letters, let’s start with creating letters that loop, a, b, d, e, f, g, h, j, k ,l, o, p, q and s. Have a go at ‘drawing’ these letters in a scale larger than normal handwriting. Fill a page with letters, some joining, some loose, a bit like asemic writing. Now create another page where you have some of the letters drawn four times, to create a‘cross design’ touching in a clockwise or anti clockwise direction, see what you discover, simple flower design of sorts. You can elaborate on the shapes you develop.
The letters you draw will inform what happens with your M project, this is the reason for the focus on patterns created in a circle. The final artwork will be round, like a mandala, and letters will form the basic decoration and lines. That is L preparation completed.
